The Southern Alberta Acute Knee Injury Clinic

The Southern Alberta Acute Knee Injury Clinic (SAAKIC) is a multidisciplinary clinic that aims to triage patients who have had a knee injury in the last 6 weeks.  SAAKIC appointments are covered by Alberta Health Services (AHS), if a provincial health care number is provided. Your Doctor's referral can be sent to our office, with no prior imaging required.

Upon assessment by our Athletic Therapist and Sports Medicine Physician, we can determine the necessary route of care for you (bracing, physiotherapy, surgery, imaging). Not only will this save you time, money, and unnecessary procedures, but it will also help minimize deterioration of the knee structures due to waiting for care.

SAAKIC allows patients access to the following professionals:

How it Works?

  1. Assessment by the Injury Care Coordinator.
  2. Assessment by the Sports Medicine Physician
  3. Diagnosis and Treatment Recommendations

This process may take upwards of an hour and a half. If additional referrals to an orthopaedic surgeon and/or an orthotist are required they will be done for you through SAAKIC.

Referrals can be completed online or by fax.
